All About Us
Kinross Otters is a successful and friendly swimming club offering a safe environment for children of all ages to develop swimming technique and stamina.
Our club is competitive and as an Otter you’ll be invited to attend galas in the Midland District which stretches from Fife to Montrose.
Our training sessions are held at Live Active Loch Leven, Kinross and are fun and challenging.
Swimming is an excellent form of exercise, providing a full body cardio workout and supporting your body. Unlike other high impact sports, injury is rare. Many of our Otters use the all-round fitness, stamina and muscle strength provided by swimming to compete in other sports like triathlon, water polo and tetrathlon.
The Club is affiliated to Scottish Swimming (S.A.S.A). and we hold open assessments 4 times a year – check out the homepage for more details on our next assessment event.
There are four squads in the club:
Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
If you are successful at becoming a member, you’ll usually start at Bronze, moving up through the lanes until your coach decides your technique, speed and ability have improved enough to move on to the next level.
Swimmers at all levels complete in District and Divisional Galas so you’ll have ample opportunity to improve your pb’s and have fun at galas with your fellow Otters. See the Training Times page for info on when each squad trains.
As a competitive club, we have a busy calendar of events and each one will be listed on the Active Portal website. Each Otter or their parent or carer will be invited to create an account on the Active Portal and all the details of your swimmers meets, races and pb’s will be listed as well as the associated costs.
The general costs for attending galas are per race and are usually £4.00 each. You can pay via the portal which is linked to your membership account.
The galas we attend are usually in the Midland District which covers the area of West Fife, Dundee and as far as Montrose.
There are also Divisional Gala’s where Otters are selected to join the First or Premier Division and compete as a team against other clubs.
All our coaches, poolside helpers, timekeepers and judges are volunteers but there are costs associated with pool rental, insurance, SASA membership and gala entries. There is a monthly cost for each Otter which helps to mitigate some of these expenses and for major items like poolside equipment, we have a wonderful team of fundraisers.
To find out more about membership costs, contact the Membership Secretary.
When you are all wearing the same colours, you truly feel like a part of the team. We believe that wearing team colours fosters team unity, which in turn keeps everyone motivated to succeed. In practical terms, it also means you can spot your team-mates in a crowded pool!
We have a kit manager who sources caps, hoodies, t-shirts and onesies and other items with the Kinross Otters colours and logos. We expect all Otters to have at least a swimming cap and t-shirt for attending galas and representing Kinross Otters.
